ADK On My Mind

Coffee.

At the cottage, we offer the ubiquitous Keurig and k-cups to get guests started. And importantly, we also have a Chemex and Hario immersion dripper for pour over options and a trusty French Press. We suggest guests either bring or buy their own coffee beans. BYOB … Because any good coffee aficionado knows that fresh beans are key. So, where’s the best place to get coffee beans — or just a good latte — in Lake Placid? Here are our top recommendations.

Origin Coffee sells coffee beans, ground coffee, and they prepare excellent pour over coffee, espresso, cold brew, lattes, chai … you name it. This place is the real deal. Origin is my top pick for buying fresh beans and getting a prepared coffee drink. They have two locations — one on Main Street in Lake Placid and one in Saranac Lake. And now they also offer online ordering.

The Coffee Bar is Eric’s favorite spot to get a chai latte. Their slogan says it all: “Come for the coffee. Stay for the view.” They’re in the Alpine Mall off Main Street, and have a great view of Mirror Lake. They offer your basic hot and cold drinks — coffee, espresso, latte, iced latte — but no pour over. They do sell coffee beans though.

The Green Goddess Natural Market on Saranac Avenue sells coffee beans, ground coffee and loose tea. If you haven’t tried it yet, you can order your groceries online and pick up at the store down the street. Very convenient.

We also love Nori’s Village Market in Saranac Lake for coffee and tea. They’re a similar market as Green Goddess, but larger with a coffee bar and seating. In addition to selling coffee beans and loose tea, they serve drip coffee, espresso and lattes. And do not miss their house-made biscotti, which is excellent! Unfortunately, they’re not yet doing pour overs. Whomp. Whomp.
