If you’re in Lake Placid over Christmas or New Years, and plan to dine out, you better make those reservations soon! Many restaurants are closed on Christmas Day, and the ones that are open book up fast.

As you might expect, it’s primarily the hotels that are open on Christmas Day. Here’s a sample of three solid options.

• The Whiteface Lodge’s over-the-top luxe Kanu Dining Room offers quite a memorable Christmas Day dining experience. The four-course dinner menu is $100/person. It appears to be regular service on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

• The Campfire Grill at Hotel Saranac is open Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve. Check the website for details and make a reservation in advance! Their New Year’s Eve pre fixe dinner menu sounds delicious for $95/person.

• We haven’t yet tried the new Boathouse Pub at the Saranac Lake Waterfront Lodge, but it looks like they’re open on Christmas Day and taking reservations in Open Table.
