4 Rainy Day Options

Meet Stickley, an Adirondack porcupine, at The Wild Center in Tupper Lake

Don’t let a rainy day get you down.

Here are our favorite places to hide out when the weather isn’t cooperating.

  1. Lake Placid Public Library: I love this little library. They have views of Mirror lake, plenty of chairs to curl up with a book, a good kids’ section, and some Adirondack chairs on their back lawn for when the weather is nice. Check their website for library events, like Story Time for the kids.

  2. Lake Placid Center for the Arts: This is an easy walk from our cottage, even if it’s raining. Check their website for events, as well as workshops for both adults and kids. Everything from photography to improv to kids’ tumbling. They also have an art gallery and live performances in their theatre. We saw Chicago’s Second City perform there.

  3. Olympic Center: The museum is currently under construction (2022), but they have a temporary exhibit that’s free. I like to check the event schedule for skating competitions. Ticket prices are nominal, and you never know when you might be able to catch a national or international speed skating event, or figure skating. It’s tons of fun. And if the weather isn’t bad, you can easily walk to the complex on Main Street.
