Welcome.
We’re Lee and Eric, and Maddie the AussieDoodle.
We spend four months a year in Lake Placid, New York, and rent our cottage on Airbnb when we’re away.
We’re Texans, based in Houston. We’ve also lived in Austin, San Antonio, Denver, Calgary, DC, Nashville and a few other towns in between. And we love the Adirondacks!
Our first trip here was June 2010 to escape the Texas heat, and we’ve returned nearly every year since. Because we love hiking with our dog, we found rental properties as the most convenient and economical way to travel. In 2019 we spent a two-month-long sabbatical in Saranac Lake, and in 2020 did another 6-week stay near Lake Clear during the pandemic. After that, we decided to buy our own little Lake Placid cottage.
As outdoor enthusiasts, we’ve snow skied or hiked the Rocky Mountains, Canadian Rockies, Smoky Mountains, Ozarks, as well as the French and Italian Alps. But you can’t beat the trail systems and mountain challenges available right here in New York. When it comes to winter, there’s a reason why Lake Placid is a two-time Olympic host.
Our paddling excursions have taken us everywhere from the Florida Keys to the San Juan Islands, and the Broken Group off the coast of western Canada. From the French Broad in North Carolina to the Texas Guadalupe. By far, our favorite paddling is the flatwater ponds and rivers of the Adirondacks.
We’re also up for a good hiking challenge! So far we’ve completed the Lake Placid 9er, Saranac Lake 6er, Tupper Lake Triad and ADK-9. We’re about half-way through the ADK Fire Tower Challenge, and began our 46er Challenge in 2023!
