November and December are a wonderful time to visit Lake Placid. Festive and bright!
Lake Placid Turkey Trot: Adirondack Health organizes a 5k Turkey Trot walk/run in Lake Placid around Mirror Lake. Held on Nov. 23, Thanksgiving Day, registration is $25 and benefits local charities.
Saranac Lake Turkey Trot: Bitters & Bones also organizes a Turkey Trot to benefit local organizations. Join the fun on Thanksgiving morning with a festive pre-feast 5K through downtown Saranac Lake. Registration is $25 per adult, $20 for kids under 18, and $10 for dogs. Every registration comes with a t-shirt. Except dogs, because, ya know.
Jingle Bell Snowshoe Race: If a Turkey Trot isn’t your jam, maybe consider heading out to Paul Smith’s VIC trails for their annual 5K snowshoe race on Dec. 2. Registration is $15, or $2 for kids under 14 years old.
Saranac Lake Sparkle Village: On Dec. 1, 4 - 8 p.m., and Dec. 2, 10 am - 3 p.m., Saranac Lake hosts their annual Sparkle Village craft show and sale. Shop from one-of-a-kind local makers and vendors. Tickets are $3 for adults and free for children under the age of 12.
Lake Placid Holiday Village Stroll: The Lake Placid Village Stroll is more than just one night. It’s a series of events Dec. 8 - 10, and includes a skating party, tree lighting, a 2.5 mile Jingle Bell fun run and more. There are also all kinds of deals and promotions at stores and restaurants along Main Street.
Santa Sunday at Whiteface: Santa Sunday will be Dec. 10 this year. Dust off your Mr. or Mrs. Claus suit and get a free lift ticket for the day at Whiteface! You’ll be able to participate in a group photo and a lap down excelsior at the top of Little Whiteface at 11 a.m. Even if you don’t have your own Santa suit, this event is super fun to watch for all ages!
Nutcracker: The Lake Placid Center for the Arts puts on three performances of the Nutcracker ballet on Nov. 25 and 26. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for youth 12 and under.
Wild Lights: Visit The Wild Center in Tupper Lake for some Wild Lights. Walk the trails after dark to experience the glow of the Wild Walk surrounded by immersive music and lights – curated specifically for the looped trail. New displays will be added around the campus for photo opportunities and even Hopscotch, the larger-than-life Stickwork sculpture, will be adorned in lights. Inside you’ll be able to warm up, grab food and drink. Open Nov. 24 - Feb. 24 on Fridays and Saturdays from 5pm to 8pm. Open nightly Dec. 26 - 31. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth.
