4 Fun Amusements for the Wee Ones

The Adirondack Carousel in Saranac Lake

For families traveling with little ones, sometimes a good park is all you need to get some energy out. We got you!

The Adirondack Carousel in Saranac Lake is so whimsical and fun. It’s a must-see for any family with young children. This carousel was a project of love for active residents of Saranac Lake who created the attraction, which opened in 2012. All the animals are native Adirondack species that have been hand-carved out of wood, led by local resident and artist Karen Loftier. Where else can your kids ride a beautifully carved and hand-painted loon, otter, porcupine or moose? Tickets start at $2.50/ride and can be bought for $10/7 rides (deal!).

The Mirror Lake public beach and playground are located at the south end of Mirror Lake, along side the public tennis courts. There’s a small sandy beach that’s perfect for kids of all ages, and a wonderful playground. Afterwards, you can walk down to the Lake Placid Pub for a meal and a beer for the adults!

Kiwanis Teddy Bear Park is about 3 blocks from our cottage. It’s a neighborhood park with a kids’ playground, plenty of open space for just running around, a few nice benches and a picnic table. Situated on top of a hill, you get fairly good views.

For a swing at Miniature Golf, give Boots & Birdies a try on Saranac Ave. It was owned by a local family for the last 10 years, but recently sold in 2022 and is under new ownership. It’s classic miniature golf, and usually busy.
