Prepare a home-cooked meal without cooking it at home! These five markets sell frozen prepared meals that you can heat and eat without much fuss.

  1. Simply Gourmet: They’re literally right around the corner for our cottage. Couldn’t be much easier. To the left of the sandwich counter is a freezer with frozen soups, chili, stew and entrees, as well as frozen cookie dough. If you need something that’s even faster, they have a case with fresh prepared meals, like grilled chicken and veggies.

  2. Eleanor’s Pasta Shop: If you’re walking down Main Street on your way back to the cottage, swing by this pasta shop to pick up some fresh or frozen pasta and sauce for dinner. They offer three pastas daily (one gluten free), choice of sauce, meat and veggies. They also have frozen pasta dishes, like ravioli and lasagna.

  3. Adirondack Corner Store: At the deli counter you’ll find a choice of ready-to-heat meals like shepherd’s pie, stuffed pasta shells and meatloaf. Like their deli sandwiches, it’s fairly basic, but good, and less expensive than some of the other options.

  4. Cedar Run Market & Bakery: Cedar Run has by far the biggest selection of frozen cabin dinners. You can seriously stock up. Of course it’s down in Keene, so you’ll need to plan ahead to stop on your drive up to Lake Placid, or after a hike in the High Peaks. Their selection is vast and includes dinners like: beef stroganoff, chicken and leek casserole, veggie pot pie, and much more.

  5. Green Goddess: They don’t carry a lot of prepared meals, but the reason I mention Green Goddess is because they often have frozen pizza from the Dogwood Bread Company. Pretty dang good frozen pizza.
