Adirondack Community Church

It’s easy to appreciate God’s work … or any higher being … when you’re on an Adirondack Mountaintop, beside a stunning lake, or walking in the peaceful woods. The natural beauty of our surroundings is life affirming. While not many attend religious services while on vacation, our places of worship in Lake Placid are beautiful. Definitely a feel-good experience. And, especially if it’s a rainy or frigid day outside, why not seek some warmth with an indoor activity like going to worship. (Also great on gorgeous sunny days!)

First things first, like all of Lake Placid, you can come as you are and not worry about how you’re dressed. I often wear jeans and a casual top to church. Sometimes I see women in skirts or casual dresses, and sometimes I see people in hiking pants. The point is, don’t fret about what you packed or didn’t pack. Whether you attend a traditional service or a contemporary service, they’re all usually informal.

St. Eustace Episcopal Church

  • The Adirondack Community Church is Methodist and offers two Sunday services — traditional and contemporary. This is the church I attend, and I can attest they welcome everyone. As a community church, its closer to non-denominational and visitors certainly don’t need to be Methodist. Communion is not typically offered. Pastor Derek Hansen, who happens to live one block over from us in Lake Placid, has a young family and they welcome kids attending service. It’s a beautiful stone church right on the shore of Mirror Lake. You can walk from our cottage, or park for free in the lot across the street from the church.

  • Another beautiful stone church with lovely stained glass windows is the St. Eustace Episcopal Church, also on Main Street. They have the only full-time choir in Lake Placid. Very much worth a visit, and they welcome everyone regardless of religious affiliation.

  • The Lake Placid Baptist Church is on Saranac Ave. In addition to Sunday services, they also offer quite a few options for bible study and programs for kids. Check their website calendar for details.

  • Catholic Mass is offered at St. Agnes Church at Saranac Ave. and Hillcrest.

  • The Lake Placid Synagogue is 140 years old and the only synagogue open year-round in the Adirondack Park.
