We had an awesome afternoon hike up nearby Mt Van Hoevenberg, just outside Lake Placid. We had hiked the original west trail years ago, but they’ve since created a new trail on the east side that’s incredibly well done. Lots of stone steps and fairly smooth walking (by ADK standards).

It’s 3.5 miles round trip, 920 feet of vertical gain, and a big payoff with spectacular views at the top.
